La sua carriera come attore inizia all'età di 15 anni. Prende parte alle interpretazioni del Barnes Theatre Company a Londra, partecipando a rappresentazioni del "Macbeth" di Shakespeare e altre rappresentazioni come "Anything Goes" e "Our Town". Prende parte nel musical "Bulli e pupe", ricoprendo un ruolo marginale dove viene notate da un regista che gli affida il ruolo di protagonista nella produzione di "Tess of D'Ubervilles", tratta dall'omonimo romanzo di Thomas Hardy.
